Detection of a new microsporidium with intranuclear localization in Penaeus vannamei cultured from Latin America

Descripción

A new intranuclear microsporidian has been identified in Latin American shrimp Penaeus vannamei that causes slow growth. This parasite, unlike the well-known Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei, belongs to the Enterospora genus and exhibits unique genetic and cellular location characteristics. Its impact on shrimp health is still unknown, so diagnostic tools are being developed to assess its pathogenicity and prevent its potential spread.
